Okay, so I have to take a second to introduce you to my super fab sister-in-law, Jami. Mostly She’s my sister-from-another-mister. We met in Jackson, WY where our hubby brothers (but this was before either couple was married…) were working as whitewater river rafting guides, I worked in the office of the same rafting company, and Jami was a horseback riding guide. We were instant bff’s, and we still chat daily. I’d be lost without her. 🙂
She’s also getting into furniture restoration, and she’ll be sharing her projects here on Attempting Aloha. This girl has more aloha than anyone I’ve ever met. And she tans better than any haole I’ve ever seen!! 😉 Can’t wait for her to come visit me here in the next couple months.
I’m Jami, Charlie’s sister in law.
I’m a laid back country girl who just moved from living in the country in Jackson Hole, WY. I miss it terribly there. But, after moving 15 times with 2 kids, dog, and lots of stuff, we finally bought our first house in a suburb. We love the rustic/country look, and we have been having fun doing what we want to our OWN house.
One of my 1st projects was an old table I bought at a garage sale (CHARLIE’S NOTE – I found it on Craigslist while searching for my own dining set and KNEW it was Jami’s style. They were made for each other. The guy was selling it right then at a yard sale, and it was in her neighborhood, so I called her, and she ran right over. ((cue Happiy Ever After music))). I have always wanted to try and refurnish a table.
(unfortunately I didn’t take very many before pictures)
THIS IS WHERE CHARLIE HIJACKS THE POST AND INSERTS PICS SHE/I TOOK WHILE I WAS THERE HELPING FOR THE FIRST DAY OR SO…
ENJOY A COUPLE IPHONE PICS:
|Closest I’ve ever been to a stripper before…ahem.|
|Poor chair looked like it needed some Head and Shoulders by the time we were done scraping off the finish.|
THEN I RAN AWAY TO HAWAII AND LEFT HER TO FINISH WITH HER HUBBY.
Back to Jami:
and the details on the chairs
But after using it for 6 months I have had some yellowing show up on the top of my table, and some chipping on the chairs. I need some help!
Do you guys have any suggestions of why my table top is turning yellow?
I’m thinking it is the poly I used.
(BACK TO CHARLIE: After looking at this and researching more, I realize we made a rookie mistake by using polyurathane instead of polyacrylic, right? Any other suggestions??)
It doesn’t look to bad from afar, but I can’t stand looking at it anymore. I stare at every day as we are eating on it for every meal, and it’s driving me crazy! I’m going to attempt once again to sand this baby all down again and start from scratch..
Ei Yi Yi
It only took me 3 months to do it before!
Help!! What are the best tips for refurnishing furniture?
Aloha appreciated here,
