Well, after living with a few cabinets torn out for a few weeks, we finally found a Saturday and made an appointment at Home Depot with a design consultant to see what kind of cabinets we wanted to install.
We took the kids with us, and I was armed with drinks, lots of snacks, two iPhones and YouTube kid videos and games, crayons and coloring books, etc. Ready for a full three-hour tour.
We tried to go with lower end cabinets as I’m
super cheap trying to stay on a budget. We were only designing one side of the kitchen since the other 1/2 is currently mold-free, and it will require knocking out walls, ripping out our “catwalk”, installing headers and beams, etc. It’s going to be a HUGE project that we’re hoping to finish while my husband has his two-week vacation in December. A single Saturday’s not gonna cut it.
Aaaaanyway, after FOUR AND A HALF HOURS, the designer was finally ready to give us our estimate. I’m thinking it’s going to be around $3500, and that was sounding on the pricey side for me since we still have the other 1/2 to do. Deep breath. $9800!
For 1/2 the kitchen.
I packed up the kids immediately while my nice hubby tried to sweep up Goldfishies off the ground as best a he could, and we were outta there.
On to Lowe’s where they were having 20% off all in-stock cabinets sale! Sweet. We got almost the exact same layout (minus the fridge garage and corner cabinet that extends down to the countertop) for… ((drumroll, please))… $1100. AFTER TAX! Oh, man. Such a relief.
BUT, these cabinets are just plain as plain can be. I loved the glazed look. Here’s what we currently have:
